  1. Vitamin Intake

    This is a very important step even before you conceive (although it might be too late) nevertheless, consuming vitamins is essential. The neural cord for your baby, which eventually becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops quickly — within the first month to be exact.

    Low impact activities such as yoga, pilates, swimming and walking are perfect. They won’t put too much stress on your body and they’re fun! Shoot for 30 minutes of exercise 4-5 days a week. Don’t worry if you don’t reach your goal—any progress is good progress!

    Be sure you listen to your body, too. If you’re aching, take a couple of days off. If you feel like you can do more, go for it! In the end, your baby wants you to be fit as a whistle so start now and you’ll reap the rewards!

  4. Eating For Two?

    Eating for two can be a perfect excuse to indulge in your favourite food. Although it can be extremely enjoyable when you satisfy those cravings, the most important thing is to make sure you’re at a healthy weight.

    The Institute of Medicine (IOM) issued new guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy:

    – Underweight: Gain 28-40 pounds
    – Normal weight: Gain 25-35 pounds
    – Overweight: Gain 15-25 pounds
    – Obese: Gain 11-20 pounds

    Regular checks with your doctor to make sure you’re on track is advised.

    Sleep is also very important – at least 8 hours a night. If you’re unable to achieve the amount of sleep required at night, then naps during the day are the best way to make up for lack of sleep.
